Scope of the Cloud

Jooyoung Oh, 2026 extended version. Arcade PC game, controller.

Scope of the Cloud

Scope of the Cloud is an interactive arcade-style PC game that explores "the cloud" as both a technological infrastructure and an abstract spatial domain. The work combines a controller with a digital game environment, inviting users to actively navigate and interpret layered data spaces.

Scope of the Cloud is set on a floating city in 2051: CLOUD, a city of climate refugees. Each game console sets Planner, Researcher, and the Flightless Bird as the main protagonists. The city's common transportation is the flying cars known as UAM (Urban Air Mobility). In this city, the bird is a pest. Birds get in the way of the UAM sky route and incur bird strikes by flying too close to the propellers of UAM drones. The basic story of the game has an open ending, and it is entirely up to the player which ending ensues. If the player does not behave within the rules of the game with regards to either birds or humans, it leads to a different ending. In a playful way, the game questions how mobility can affect ecosystems and human lives.

The project integrates elements of gameplay, creating a hybrid experience between entertainment and critical inquiry. Through interaction, users engage with shifting perspectives of aerial space, questioning how future mobility systems will structure perception, memory, and control.
